Older Adult & Senior Refugee Support


A dedicated initiative addressing the unique needs of elderly refugees who face compounded challenges of displacement. The program is designed to provide culturally appropriate care that respects seniors' life experiences while meeting their practical needs. It aims to reduce isolation, improve access to healthcare, and support family caregivers. The program's goal is to help aging refugees maintain dignity and connection as they rebuild their lives in new communities.
 

 

OLDER ADULT & SENIOR REFUGEE SUPPORT PROGRAM INCLUDES:

1. Senior Day Centers
  • Offering nutritious meals, health screenings, and social activities in participants’ native languages
  • Creating welcoming spaces with traditional music, games, and intergenerational programs to reduce isolation
2. Family Caregiver Support
  • Providing respite care services and training for families caring for elderly refugee and asylee relatives
  • Distributing instructional materials and running support groups in multiple languages
3. Holistic Services
  • Assisting with benefits enrollment, mobility aid distribution, and grief counseling
  • Helping seniors navigate complex healthcare systems while honoring cultural practices related to aging and end-of-life care
4. Cultural Engagement & Dignity Preservation
  • Encouraging seniors to share cultural traditions, stories, and wisdom with younger generations
  • Promoting programs that honor and preserve the dignity and contributions of elderly refugees and asylees
